The world is in a climate emergency. Unless greenhouse gas emissions fall dramatically, warming could pass 2.9°C this century
Unless greenhouse gas emissions fall dramatically, warming could pass 2.9°C this century, which would have catastrophic consequences for life on this planet. UNEP takes a four-pronged approach to addressing the climate crisis and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. The organisation;
→ provides cutting-edge research to support science-based decision-making on climate change
→ works across sectors to support the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future
→ ensures a just transition to a carbon-neutral world by empowering communities to adapt to changing climatic conditions; and
→ develops sustainable mechanisms to unlock financing to help countries both mitigate and adapt to climate change.
Our work on Climate Action is carried out through public-private partnerships, often involving partners, collaborating centres, programmes and networks.
